When: Wednesday October 29, 2008 at 12pm
Where: 24th and Mission BART Stop, San Francisco, California
Why: Community, Civil Rights, Youth Rights, Immigrant Rights and Labor groups unite to oppose Propositions 6 and 9 and to support proposition 5. These groups view Proposition 5 as taking a step forward, and propositions 6 and 9 as taking steps back in our struggle for just, criminal policies. On one end, Proposition 5 seeks to appropriately refocus the purpose of our criminal justice system and frame it in terms of rehabilitation and reintegration, not simply isolation. On the other end, Propositions 6 and 9, advocate for antiquated justifications for a punitive criminal justice system that, although profitable, has not proven to be an effective structure.
